Steve Schmalz has served the residents of Mukilteo for 12 years as a member of the City Council. Throughout his tenure, he has been a strong advocate for public safety, fiscal responsibility, and community development. A passionate volunteer, Steve has led numerous community events, earning him the respect and trust of Mukilteo residents. As Mayor, Schmalz is committed to working with residents to improve public safety, address the city’s financial challenges, and create a brighter future for Mukilteo.

Steve has lived in Mukilteo for the past 21 years with his wife Christine. Steve graduated from the Sigmund Weiss School of Business at Susquehanna University.

Accomplishments

*Initiated resident free Parking Pass Program at the waterfront.

*Initiated  and secured funding for Fire Department water rescue equipment.

*Initiated and secured funding and interim access for Central Waterfront Park.

*Secured trail maintenance funding for Big Gulch and Japanese Gulch.

*Initiated, secured and voted for traffic calming program.

*Saved Mukilteo taxpayers thousands of dollars by holding the line on purchase price of Japanese Gulch.

*Worked with residents to solve parking and traffic issues in their neighborhoods.

*Voted to fund Dog Park

*Supported cooling stations at Rosehill Community Center during extreme heat waves.

*Supported to keep Mukilteo a small vibrant community without the encroachment of high density housing.
