Fiscal Responsibility

Mukilteo's finances are in a precarious state. In 2024, the city faced a $1.1 million deficit in the General Fund, a troubling sign of fiscal imbalance. Unfortunately, the situation is projected to worsen in the coming years, with deficits forecasted to reach $4.6 million in 2025 and 2026—the largest in Mukilteo's history. Without the aid of the one-time $1.9 million in ARPA grant funding to help reduce the $1.2 million deficit in 2025, our financial outlook would be even more dire.

As mayor, I am committed to addressing these financial challenges head-on. My goal is to restore Mukilteo to solid financial footing by implementing measures that curb reckless spending and promote responsible reductions in expenditures. It is imperative that we present and execute a balanced budget without resorting to tax increases to our residents.

Fiscal responsibility is not just about cutting costs; it's about making strategic decisions that ensure the long-term health and prosperity of our community. By prioritizing essential services, eliminating wasteful spending, and seeking innovative solutions, we can navigate these financial hurdles and build a more resilient Mukilteo.

I am dedicated to stopping deficit spending and building a culture of accountability and transparency in our financial practices. Together, we can create a sustainable future for Mukilteo, where our finances are managed prudently and our community thrives.
